Ever wonder after a really bad dog show weekend why you keep doing this?
This past Friday at the Denver Regional I had one of those days that is the answer to that question.
DSA does not split it's veteran classes by age. So I was kind of bummed when I saw that my boy Icer's competition was only 7 years old. Icer is 11. But he is in really great shape so we went out there with hope in our hearts.
And Icer came thru, flying around the ring just like when he was two or three. And one unexpected side effect of being neutered last year is that he actually is interested in the bait I have instead of the girls.
But he wasn't done.
Icer took an Award of Merit.
Our first one ever.
Might not seem like much to those of you with multiple Best in Specialties but for me, with my 11 year old "puppy" it's one of the coolest things we've done in a long time :)
And what made me extra proud? He ended up in the BOB ring right behind last years National Specialty winner Dasani. Those of you who have seen her "in the fur" know that Dasani **flys** around the ring, often leaving her competition in the dust. Not Icer - the "old man" was right on her paws ( No I do not mean I was running up on her!!) the whole way around the ring.
The other thrill that day.... Icer's great great grand nephew, 17 month old Max was Best of Opposite in the Puppy Sweepstakes!
Oh yeah! Max also went WD on Saturday for points number 11 and 12...now he's just looking for that last major.....
