Kelly Wins Twice!

Yippee!!! Kelly took back to back Best of Breed wins in Laramie Wyoming this weekend. She beat a nice group of Samoyeds including two group winning dogs and a group placing bitch!

Meanwhile.... Babe used the weekend for serious remedial ring manner training. And I learned that if we show after noon, Babe needs to have lunch before she goes in the ring!

Sigh....

When I called home last weekend my husband told me "Ilsa started to blow her coat."

I came home and found she had indeed exploded. Just like that. She was fine when I left and looked like she had been attacked by a hoard of hungry moths when I got home.

My whole house looks like this right now...*

*Okay, I'm exaggerating... a little :)

Overdue Update

The Babe Blog has been so neglected since the puppies were born. Just not enough time inthe day to do everything. I have no pictures to share but thought I'd do a brief update anyway.

At the shows last weekend there were no points to be taken in Siberians, Kira was the only class dog. :( But the Durango Kennel Club did hold "Best Puppy" competitions on Friday and Satruday and Kira brought home two Group IIs! :)

Meanwhile Babe was a happy dog in the ring. Too happy. She spent a lot of time ignoring me and looking for food on the floor. But this is actually a Good Thing as at her last several shows she was acting as if something had spooked her before going in the ring. This past weekend there were no signs of anything bothering her.

On the home front, in addition to taking care of the pups the big thing we've been worried about is fence breakouts. Several weeks back I wrote about Pumpkin escaping. Turns out she had not been going under the fence or usin a snowdrift to helpher over, she had simply been hopping over the fence. Once we discovered that and realized there was no way to "fix" a fence that's not broken, we bought a new 10 x 10 foot Priefert kennel and Pumpkin has been kenneled when ouside and not on a leash. I hated that she couldn't run the yard with the other dogs, but better safe than gone.

Unfortunately the new kennel for Pumpkin did not solve the problems. Aliy got out several times by digging holes under the fence. Last weekend she was gone for almost an hour. It appeared she needed to be kenneled as well. Then Bandit the Akita got out. Not good. The last thing anyone wants is a 120 pound unneutered male Akita stalking the neightberhood. He got kenneled too.

What good is having 4 fenced acres if nobody is allowed out in it???

So we have taken the next step. Yesterday we went to the local ranch supply store and bought all the equipment necessary to hot wire the fence. We are going to start with just hot wiring the bottom all the way around and the top along the one side that Pumpkin has been jumping. I hate the idea of the dogs being zapped, but I hate the idea of them being gone and possibly dead even more.

This next weekend Kelly, Kira Babe and I head off to Larmie Wyoming (my least favorie place on earth) for dog shows on Sunday and Monday. Maybe I'll even take soem pictures.

Babe Herds Sheep! Kira Wins!

Babe, Kelly, Kira and I spent the weekend in one of our favorite places, Albuquerque, New Mexico. This was the first weekend in a group of dog shows that we will be attending over the next 5 weeks.

On Saturday Babe got to try her paw at herding sheep. She had a blast and passed the first leg of the AHBA instinct test so she can now be known as WhiteStar's Ready For Anything HIC.

I thought about letting Kira try it but I honestly have NEVER heard of a Siberian being used to herd sheep so I didn't. There is always next year.

On Sunday Kira did have an exciting day though. She took her first point!!! I can remember when putting a point on a 7 month old puppy rarely happened. It's nice to see judges recognizing that puppies count too!
